Gardens: Arboretums

The selection of beautiful trees that are featured in Arboretums are often tied in a very special way to the surrounding region. They often they form special showcases for the arboretum itself. Arboretums are actually botanical gardens that specialize in trees and other woodsy plants grown with education and science in mind.

Some arboretums harbor a large variety of different types of trees, while others focus on a few special local varieties. Parks often contain a large variety of trees as well, but the difference is that their main goal is often display rather than research.

Interesting little tidbit: Arboretums that grow conifers are known as "pinetums".
