Gardens: Famous
While it is true that some of the most beautiful gardens are also some of the smallest or overlooked, the majority of everybody's first experience with truly magnificient gardens are those that are well known. Quite often, these famous gardens are able to expand initially and really achieve enormous acreage because they're actually parts of a larger estate that was donated or named in honor of wealthy individuals. Other famous gardens get their boost from city or state governments or other entities. One thing about these more well-known gardens is that they're more crowded! As such, you're going to always want to plan ahead - make reservations where applicable and if possible try to plan to visit on weekdays.
