Awbury Arboretum
located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Over 140 different species of trees grace the Awbury Arboretum in the Germantown area of Philly. Originally envisioned by the Cope family with help from landscape architect William Saunders, the 55 acre English style gardens are centered around the Francis Cope House. Some of the types of trees include Paper Birch, American Linden and Sycamore.

Their mission statement:

"Our mission is to preserve and interpret Awbury's historic house and landscape,
thereby connecting an urban community with nature and history"

One interesting facet of the arboretum is their dedication to providing training and jobs for disadvantaged individuals - they actually manage ALS, Inc. (Awbury Landscape Services) which provides landscaping and other garden services for various companies and personal homes in the area.

The arboretum also has a Field Studies Program which concentrates on environment and ecology related to the arboretum, as well as a Summer Nature Program that will host camps and child-care programs for a fee.

The Awbury Arboretum is available for rental for various events including weddings, picnics, business meetings, and retreats. They have a list of recommended caterers on the site as well. Wedding photography and other sessions are allowed in the gardens, although you should call to make sure that no other events conflict with yours.
