Berry Botanic Garden
located in Portland, Oregon

Funny, I had thought that the Berry Botanic Garden had some sort of focus on berries, but it turns out that it got its name from its founder: Rae Selling Berry. She established the garden in 1938 and it became a non-profit org in 1978.

The current gardens span 6.5 acres and are available to view by reservation only. They promote the Northwest's native flora including endangered species. Some of the plants featured rhododendrons (over 2,000 specimens from 160 species in a forest), primula, high-mountain and sub-alpine plants, lilies.

Some of the alpine plants can be viewed in the largest public Rock Garden on the west coast. The endangered species of the Pacific Northwest are collected together in a "Garden of Rare Beauty". Other areas include a Native Plants Trail and a Fern Garden.
