Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park
located in Superior, Arizona
This arboretum was initially created on land purchased by Colonel William Boyce Thompson in the 1920s. The mission of the arboretum is "... to instill in people an appreciation of plants through the fostering of educational, recreational, research, and conservation opportunities associated with arid-land plants."
There are many different garden areas, including a cacti garden with over 800 different species, a highly interesting Legume Garden (Taylor Familiy garden featuring Mesquite, peanuts, beans, alfalfa, clover, ironwood and palo verde), a water-efficient Demonstration garden, and The Wing Memorial garden featuring myrtle and different herbs and aromatic plants.
