Brookgreen Gardens
located in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

The Brookgreen Gardens were founded by Archer and Anna Huntington around 1931. The gardens are perhaps more famous for their collection of outdoor sculpture (the garden was actually the FIRST sculpture garden in America), with over 900 works from 300 artists, the majority of which are American dating from the 1800s to modern pieces. The sculptures are set within 50 wonderful acres within the gardens

The remaining 250 acres in the garden host the Diana Garden (featuring 250 year old live oaks), Children's Garden, Carolina Terrace (with perennials, roses, shrubs and trees), dogwood garden, Palmetto garden featuring Sabal palmetto and the whimsical Fountain of the Muses Garden. The garden is also adjacent to a 50 acre zoo that features animals, native plants and an aviary.

The gardens do offer facility rentals for Weddings and other events - including the Holliday Cottage, Huntington Garden, Pavilion Restaurant and Lowcountry Center.

South Carolina packs delightful scenic variety into a relatively small area. Understandably, the state's tourism industry is huge, hosting over 30 million visitors annually. These destinations offer tremendous attractions, but the rest of the state of ... [reviews]
