Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
located in Boothbay, Maine 

This is a wonderful garden getaway to visit on the coast of Maine. As a bonus, for hardy souls who come out from January to March, admission is free to the gardens.

The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens comprise 248 acres (largest in the New England area) along the shoreline of the Back River, 120 of which was only recently donated. This is a relatively new garden, having been founded in 1991, with the new visitor center being completed only in 2006. They are still growing as well, with a Garden of the Five Senses and Children's Garden in the works, as well as an expansion of the existing trail system to take advantage of the newly donated acreage.

Some of the wonderful garden areas to visit here are the Woodland Gardens, Rose Gardens, Great Lawn, Meditation Garden, Shoreline Trail, Forest Pond, Fern Walk, Rhododendron Garden. Over two miles of trails wind through the area. They have 5 different plant collections: Rhododendron (100 species and cultivars), Kousa Dogwood (20 cultivars), Roses (60 different), Native Plant (50 different), and Fern (30 species).

The gardens are available for wedding rentals as well as meetings and parties. Available areas (which need to be scheduled in advance) are the visitor Center (including the Great Hall, Library and Café), Rose Garden, Event Lawn and Ceremony Area.
