Cranberry Glades Botanical Area
located in Raintown, West Virginia

The Cranberry Glades area is a popular tourist attraction in West Virginia and according to Wikipedia is "one of West Virginia’s two flora Natural Wonders." This protected 750 acre acrea is an "acidic wetland" of bogs and hosts many wonderful species of animals and types of plants and trees. The unusual plants and animals, which are more representative of bogs in the north, migrated here thousands of years ago when climate conditions changed.

A good amount of the botanical area is accessible via boardwalk (the site actually says that a half mile boardwalk only is available, though others say 5 miles). There are also nature trails that go deeper into the area, nearby the Cranberry Wilderness. The glades are located in the Monongahela National Forest, accessible by public roads - please check the directions on their site. There is also an information center located at junction of Route 150 and Route 39/55 - this is the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center. It has more information on the forest and the surrounding attractions.
