Dinosaur State Park Arboretum
located in Rocky Hill, Connecticut

This is a fantastic arboretum to take the kids to, because it's located at the Dinosaur State Park which is certainly something they'd be interested in! The Park was opened in 1968 around a rare large set of 2,000 dinosaur tracks in sandstone. A portion of the tracks are located underneath the signature geodesic dome, which also houses lifesize dinosaur dioramas and various other dinosaur educational exhibits.

There are two miles of nature trails outside the exhibits, as well as the arboretum, which is focusing on a very interesting idea: to grow representatives of as many of the Mesozoic Era plants families. This includes over 250 species and cultivars of conifers as well as other trees and shrubs from the Cretaceous angiosperm families. Pine, juniper, magnolia, gingkoes, katsuras and others have been planted. Some of the more interesting trees include: Cedar-of-Lebanon, Giant Sequoia, Incense Cedar, Monkey Puzzle Trees, Plumyew and Hibba Arborvitae.
