East Texas Arboretum
located in Athens,
Texas
This interesting arboretum was originally the site of a run-down truck farm and it was only through dedicated volunteer efforts that the botanical grounds were established. The 100 acres of beautiful gardens were only created in the 1990s.
Visitors can view the hardwood forests of the arboretum, wetland areas, bog overlook and over 2 miles of scenic trails. Other specific gardens include a herb garden, butterfly garden, cottage and kitchen gardens, koi ponds, wildflower restoration area, a historical homestead, bee colony area, perennial gardens and rose gardens. The historic B.W.J. Wofford home was moved to the arboretum in 2001 and now functions as a museum.
The gardens are available for various rentals including Weddings, Engagement Parties, Rehearsal Dinners, and Receptions. Please contact their staff for more info.
