Elm Bank Horticulture Center
located in Wellesley, Massachusetts

This is actually the new center for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society since 1996. The 36 acre area hosts different formal gardens as well as more natural settings for flora such as fields, wooded areas, meadows and waterways and pools. The center is active in educating the public in horticulture through classes, displays, plant clinics, and other events.

The Elm Bank can trace its roots all the way back to 1740 when elms were first planted in the area near the Charles River. It went through many changes until 1987 when it was entered into the National Register of Historic Places.

The gardens are constantly changing and new additions are beign made. Currently, it sports a wonderful Children's Garden called "Weezie's" that is a spiral based collection of little themed gardens with many places for kids and adults alike to interact with the elements within the garden, a New England Trial Garden where new varieties for the All-America Selections awards are tested, an Italianate Garden (originally from 1926 but now restored), and the Jim Crockette Memorial Garden featuring poppies and asteroides along with memorial benches and brick pathways.

Other gardens include a Day Lily gardne, elm tree nursery, herb garden, and several display gardens for Rhododendrons and other flowers.

The gardens are available for renting for filming and photography and there is a limited amount of space for garden weddings, most notably at the Hunnewell Bldg which is the former carriage house for the estate. Contact the gardens for more information on holding a wedding there.
