Fort Stevenson State Park Arboretum
located in Garrison, North Dakota 

Within the bounds of the Fort Stevenson State Park near Garrison is a newer arboretum that has been built. Originally, the park got its name after a 19th century frontier military fort which was named in honor of Brigadier General Thomas Greeley Stevenson. There are a host of different native and more exotic trees (over fifty different species) within the arboretum, along with mixed native grasses, and other prairie species like bluestem, blue grama, needle-and-thread and western wheatgrass.

Besides the arboretum, the park has campgrounds, cabins, a visitor center, interpretive trails and a prairie dog town. Lake Sakakawea is also the home of the a Governor's Cup Walleye Fishing Derby.
