Hunter House
located in Newport, Rhode Island

This was actually the initial site that prompted the founding of the Preservation Society of Newport County. Built during Newport's Golden Age of the 1750s, it has endured numerous changes in ownership. Its name comes from US Senator William Hunter who expanded the house to its current Georgian mansion state. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968.

Outside of the mansion are various perennial and annual flower beds framed with boxwood along with a pergola covered in wisteria. Once again, if you plan to visit check the website as this tour may sometimes be combined in a package with other Newport mansion tours. I don't believe this mansion is open for garden wedding or reception rentals at this time.
