Ladew Topiary Gardens
located in Monkton, Maryland

This is one of the best topiary gardens in the United States. Located in Maryland, the 22 acre Ladew Topiary Gardens feature amazing trees and shrubs trimmed into the shapes of animals, people and other objects. One standout topiary is a full "Fox Hunt" scene complete with riders on horseback accompanied by dogs chasing a fox.

Besides the topiary, the grounds also host 15 different themed gardens or "rooms" including Woodland, Victorian, Berry, Rose, Waterlily and Cottage. There are also color-themed gardens, a sculpture area, and a teahouse. All of these gardens are the legacy of the estate of Harvey Ladew, a colorful socialite who created the area in the 30s.

There is a newer 1.5 mile "nature walk" that opened recently. This trail leads through various natural areas including a section of wetland forests and marsh accessible by boardwalk.

In addition to the gardens, The Ladew Manor House can be toured by visitors. It contains a great selection of older English furniture as well fox hunting memorabilia. Also, the Ladew Gardens Barn Gallery hosts various artist installments and receptions.

The grounds are currently not available for garden wedding rentals.
