Longwood Gardens
located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania

This is an immense botanical area, one of Pennsylvania's finest, with 1050 acres of woodlands and meadows, 40 different themed gardens (20 inside the conservatories, 20 outside). 11,000 different plants along with fountains, educational classes and internships and 800 different events and performances occurring each year.

The garden was originally purchased by Pierre S. DuPont from the Pierce family (who in turn actually purchased it from William Penn way back in 1700).

Some of the extensive gardens you'll find here include an Idea Garden (11 different plant groups for comparison and observation), Hillside Garden (with shrubs and trees designed to inspire the home gardener), Chimes Tower and Waterfall (the tower houses a 62-bell Carillon), Oak and Conifer Knoll, Cow Lot lawn, formal Rose Garden, Topiary Garden and Analemmatic Sundial (50 specimens in 20 shapes), Caryopteris Allee, Forest Walk, Theatre garden, Peony Garden, and Wisteria Garden.

The east end of the gardens feature the seven acre Peirce's Woods and Park, the Meadow and various Lakes. There are some amazing fountains in the gardens including the captivating Eye of Water, Sylvan Fountain, Round Fountain and Square Fountain.

Kids will find plenty to keep them amused at Longwood including the Bee-aMazed Children’s Garden and special events like Firefly Nights. The garden does not offer rental of the facilities for receptions or other events, but wedding photos are allowed between 9am and closing.
