Martha Springer Botanical Garden
located in Salem, Oregon

This is a great little one acre botanical area tucked away behind the athletic building of Willamette University. It was named in honor of biologist and professor Martha Springer in 1988. The focus of the gardens are mostly native Oregonian plant species, although they do have non-native species as well. Areas include a herb garden, Alpine Rock garden, and butterfly garden. The campus itself hosts over 1,000 trees and various sculpture.

Nearby the campus are several other garden areas that may be of interest including The Sesquicentennial Rose Garden (containing both new and historical rose varieties) and The Germaine Fuller Japanese Garden which is behind the Art Building. There is also an area known as the "Star Trees" which are 5 giant redwoods that were planted in honor of Willamette's centennial in 1942 - the trees get the full Xmas light treatment during the holidays.
