Massee Lane Gardens
located in Fort Valley, Georgia

This garden is actually located at the headquarters for the American Camellia Society, which moved there in 1968 after being based in Macon since 1955. Though the garden focuses on Camellias, it also features other types of flowers and plants as well.

The nine acres were originally the private gardens of David C. Strother who donated the land to the society in 1966. They currently feature one of the best collections of Camellias in the world. There are greater than 1000 varieties in the Camellia garden, along with sasanquas, tea olives, roses, and daphnes. There is a greenhouse located on the grounds in which some of the camellias are grown.

Other notable areas include the Abendroth Japanese Garden (with a teahouse, koi fish pond, stones and boulders and various other flora), The Scheibert Rose Garden with over 150 roses and a gazebo, and an Environmental Garden which is in the works and will feature native plants overlooking a 2.4 acre lake.

There is also visitor center, gift shop, auditorium and reception room. There are two areas where porcelain art is shown: the Stevens-Taylor Gallery and the Annabelle Lundy Fetterman Educational Museum. Portions of the garden and facilities are available for rental for weddings, in particular the Rose Garden for ceremonies and photos.
