Myriad Botanical Gardens
located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

These 17 acres of botanical gardens are centered around the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory. The conservatory (designed by famed architeect I.M. Pei) is pretty amazing with over 1000 different plant species from every continent except Antarctica divided into two zones: a tropical rain forest area and a dry tropical zone. Some of the plant life you'll find include: Palms, Cycads, Gingers, Bromeliads, Orchids, Euphorbias and Begonias. A 35 foot waterfall will capture your attention as well. There is a birdhouse, fishpond and a reptile house for kids to check out.

In the outdoor portion of the gardens there is a sunken lake with koi and other fish native to Oklahoma. The Meinders Garden features a large collection of perennials and flowering shrubs that are suited for Oklahoma's severe climate and changes on a seasonal basis.

A variety of different areas of the gardens are available for weddings and other events. Wedding photography is also allowed (there is a per hour fee).

Oklahoma Hiking Trails
by: Kent F. Frates
Oklahoma is well known as prime hunting and fishing territory, but red-dirt country also offers many opportunities for hiking, running, and off-road biking. Though trail guides for neighboring states abound, outdoorsmen Kent F. Frates and Larry Floyd found no such book for Oklahoma. The outcome of their collaboration, Oklahoma Hiking Trails, fills that void as the first comprehensive ... [reviews]

The Guide to Oklahoma Wildflowers (Bur Oak Guide)

With its Rocky Mountain foothills, hardwood forests, many rivers and streams, low mountains, sand dunes, cypress swamps, and wide swaths of rangeland and pastureland, the Great Plains state of Oklahoma is one of only four with more than ten ecoregions. Tallgrass, mixed-grass, and shortgrass prairies are native to large areas; rainfall and temperature are quite variable; and elevations ... [reviews]
