Prescott Park
located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire

This wonderful city park in Portsmouth is located right up on the edge of the Piscataqua River and very close to the Strawberry Banke Museum. Most people know it from the Prescott Park Arts Festival which is a musical and theatre production held in the summer months. The park was originally gifted to the city by Josie and Sarah Prescott near the turn of the century.

The park is approximately 10 acres which include the Sawtelle walking pier and the Emerson Hovey Fountain in the northern part, the performance theatre and stage in the center part, and the main park buildings (includes 200 year old Shaw's Building) in the South. The formal garden with pathways, flower planting beds and fountains is located in the center near the stages, while the All-America trial garden and "liberty pole" are located in the southern area near the buildings.

Also of interest in Four Tree island which can be reached from the Peirce Island bridge and is a favorite with picknickers. The park areas are also available for garden weddings, although on a limited basis. Reservations are required and weddings need to take into account the fact that this is a public park and cannot be closed off.
