Rosecliff
located in Newport, Rhode Island

This wonderful Newport mansion was completed in 1902 for silver heiress Thersa Oelrichs. It's part of the Preservation Society of Newport's series of estates, so check their site for more info on packages and tours. It has gotten its name from the particular rose (American Beauty) in the period garden at the mansion. Besides climbing roses, there are begonias, a fountain and paths to walk along. Several movies have been filmed at Rosecliff. The society received the estate as a gift from the Mr. and Mrs. J. Edgar Monroe from New Orleans in 1971.
