Sayen Gardens
located in Trenton, New Jersey

The 30 acre Sayen Botanical Gardens is also a municipal park in Hamilton Park. Originally the home of Fred Sayen and his family since 1912, it was converted into a public garden in 1991. The previous occupants were fans of rare and unusual flora and much of the initial work of gathering specimens were done by them in their travels around the world.

Some of the standout varieties of plants include over 1000 azaleas, 500 rhododendrons and 250,000 bulbs reserved for the display plantings in the spring. The area also features water and fish ponds, trails, bridges and gazebos. Fans of the Bungalow style houses in the Arts and Crafts style will also be interested in the Sayen House, with its three walls of windows and classic flat horizontal architecture, which is only open to the public during the annual Azalea Festival.

The gardens do allow both rentals for events and for wedding photos... popular areas are three gazebos as well as the scenic bridges. These need to be reserved in advance by calling them.
