South Arkansas Arboretum
located in El Dorado, Arkansas

The South Arkansas Arboretum (not to be confused with Little Rock's Arkansas Arboretum) is operated by the South Arkansas Community College and is located next to El Dorado High School. The 13 acre botanical garden was created in 1965 and focuses on native species of plants and trees, some of which include pines, magnolias, black gum, white ash, sycamores, beech, holly, black cherry, maple and oaks. Besides being a forest haven for visitors, the arboretum serves as an educational resource for the schools in the El Dorado area.

There are over two miles of paved trails within the arboretum. It is actually unusual in that it's a state park located within a city (it became a state park in 1994). Tours are self guided, although guided tours can be arranged by contacting the arboretum. Birders will enjoy the area with a large population of cardinals, jays, wrens, chickadees, mockingbirds and robins year round. The facility includes a pavillion as well as benches and interpretive signs along the paved trails.
