South Bend Conservatory
located in South Bend, Indiana

The South Bend Conservatory is actually the collective name for the Ella Morris Botanical Conservatory, Muessel-Ellison Botanical Conservatory and Potawatomi Greenhouse(s), located at Potawatomi Park, close to Indiana University - South Bend. The greenhouse has a long history stretching back to the 20s as a seller and provider of flowers and plants to the surrounding areas. There are actually 8 growing houses and plans are constantly in the works for others.

The other two botanical conservatories date from the 60s and host more tropical varieties. The Morris Conservatory hosts rubber and citrus trees and bamboo, while the Muessel-Ellison Conservatory hosts a waterfall, bougainvillea, and bird of paradise plants. There is also a large "Arizona Desert" dome with various cacti and succulents, plus century plants and a Monkey Puzzle tree.

In order to help raise funds, the Potawatomi Greenhouse sponsors three flower shows during the year. Specifically, there are a Spring Show, a Mum Show and a Winter Show. There are some areas of the facility that are available for rental and weddings (mostly in the Muessel-Ellison Conservatory), and they usually charge per hour. Prices are subject to change, but at last update it was approximately $100 for the first hour and then $50/hr for every hour after the first.
