Urban Forestry Garden
located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire

The Urban Forestry Center is a unique community forestry and demonstration program close to Portsmouth that consists of a 182 acre park with fields, forests, marshes and managed gardens. It was donated by John Elwyn Stone whose ancestor was actually the first governor of New Hampshire. The Division of Forests and Lands now manages the grounds.

The center has demonstration gardens for landscapers including tips for perennial borders, woodland garden designs, groundcover areas, herb and vegetable gardens. It is also used as a farm for trees, and a bird and wildlife sanctuary. There are historic buildings on site as well, some of which are used for education purposes, seminars and classroom activities.

The forest management area consists of 95 acres of deciduous and coniferous trees of the New Hampshire area. There is also red pine and spruce plantations. Visitors can walk through the woodlands on self guided trails.
